Welcome to PreK!
Hi! My name is Amanda Volk and I have 3 grown children now, scattered between the coast of NC, south Florida and one still at home in the mountains north of Rabun County. I am returning to Habersham County after living here way back in the late 1900s, attending Piedmont College (University) - where I discovered my love of teaching young children over 30 years ago! After 2 years in Georgia PreK, my husband's job at the time moved us to New Mexico for a year with our oldest son, then we had another son, moved back to the Upstate of SC for 7 years - having our daughter during that time - and I obtained my Master's Degree from SWU while my children were still very young. I was mostly a stay-at-home mom at that time, but also was blessed to teach at a part-time private PreK for a few years. We then moved to Clayton GA and finally up to Franklin NC in 2005, and finished raising our family there. During my children's school years, I chose to sub/tutor mostly full time to keep to their schedules but not have the pressures of my own classroom, allowing me more freedom to be their mom after school hours and be as involved as possible with their activities. Once my daughter was well into high school, I went back to teaching private PreK for a few years, eventually landing in NC PreK/Head Start on the campus of WCU and then making a big change a few years ago, I jumped to 2nd grade for a few years, went back to Kindergarten last school year and then finally was able to make it back to Georgia after several life changes, and I am SO blessed to be back in Habersham County again! PreK and Kindergarten are my absolute favorite age groups to teach, so I am extremely excited to be able to guide our youngest learners into their school careers this year at Level Grove!!!
